Common Questions

Hi, if you have questions or at any point you’re confused or too annoyed to dig through this page to find the answer you’re looking for, just email us at support@quantam.io.

What is the difference between CCTV and time-lapse cameras?

CCTV cameras are used for security purposes as surveillance equipment. They are placed in strategic positions to cover high-risk areas, entry points, and corridors. The cameras are used to capture unplanned activity and are often a low picture quality video feed that runs 24/7 or is triggered by activity.
Time-lapse cameras are used for monitoring planned construction activity, project management reporting, progress tracking, and marketing material. They are designed to capture high-quality images at regular intervals throughout the activity. These are used to create high-resolution time-lapse videos, marketing assets, or to allow users to zoom in and view activity for project management purposes.

What do I need to install a camera on my job site?

A typical camera installation requires only the mounting:

  • Mounting – Quantam’s outdoor cameras come inside an enclosure which is then mounted to an existing structure. Enclosures are typically secured to a vertical pole (telephone pole, crane beam, etc.), on rooftops, or against a vertical surface/wall of a building. We design our equipment to be as simple as possible for customers to self-install. Of course, we know there are always special circumstances regarding the above items, and we’re always willing to work with you to find the best fit for your particular location.

Can I run Quantam offline?

Quantam has been designed in a way that it can run with most of the cellular networks. Users need to put a sim card inside the controller for internet connectivity. The system can also run offline, but this offline is restricted to only when the network fails. The Quantam has an optional add-on ethernet port for LAN if mobile network connectivity is not an option. It is not recommended to run it as a complete offline unit.

What mobile networks is Quantam compatible with?

The modems used in Quantam equipment meet international standards and are supported on most mobile networks.

Do I need to provide an Internet connection at the camera location?

Quantam systems connect to the internet through a Mobile network. You will need a sim card with a data package on it. The speed of upload of images and other functionality such as updating logs is highly dependent on the strength of the internet signal available at the site. Quantam Iris comes with an in-built Ethernet port for fixed line internet connectivity as well.
